The roller coater season for the Southern Illinois Salukis ended Friday afternoon with a loss to the Bradley Braves 67-55 in a first round game of the MVC Tournament.
The game started well for SIU as they built a 19-7 lead. It proved to be their largest lead of the game, but it was short lived.
Southern couldn't buy a bucket and Bradley caught fire taking off on a 25 to 8 run to hit the locker room leading by 9 at 34-25.
Southern trailed by as many as 15 early in the second half but managed to battle back to within 7 with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. Down the stretch Bradley guard Sam Maniscalco took control at the line hitting eight of the Braves last ten free throws to slam the door. Maniscalco finished with a game high 21 points and a perfect 14-14 from the charity stripe.
The Salukis were lead in scoring by senior forward Tony Boyle's 16. Ryan Hare added points in 37 minutes on the floor.
The 2008-09 season ended with a 13-18 record.
If Chris Lowery and company get a big man next season this team could have a season Saluki Nation expects.
